Small Talk #3 (June 2002)
A MESSAGE FROM JACQUELYN SMALL, Founding Director of Eupsychia Institute:

Your human psyche is your incarnated soul. This Divine Feminine Principle inside your mind and heart is both human and divine. Psyche is the mirrored reflection of Spirit, living as a mediator between Spirit and matter, heaven and earth, the holy and the mundane. Such a vast creative being is your psyche. She can reach all the way into the Collective Unconscious and the personal unconscious minds alike and retrieve all our disowned or unrecognized parts. When the urge strikes us to pull all these pieces of ourselves together, both the divine and the human elements of our being, and to own them as our Self, then we are headed Home. It marks the shift from involving in lessons to evolving up and out of them. We learn the methods that enable us to release our past, and we turn toward our future where we will start moving back through the holistic patterns that created us -- the archetypal dimension -- then our cosmic memory returns. We will see that we are, just like the goddess Psyche, gods and goddesses who fell from The Garden, or Mt. Olympus, to become human and do the work of Spirit here. In other words, we came from the big Collective Unconscious Mind known as Mt. Olympus, the home of the gods. And our purpose was to incarnate fully here, to bring Spirit into this material world as humans, made "in the image of God."

Psyche was born when we stepped out of the animal kingdom and became individual people who could think and feel, reflect on the past and future, and experience earthly pleasures. This was when the human kingdom was birthed here on earth, a marriage of heavenly beings with animal instinct and bodies.

The soul once turned toward matter,
Fell in love with it.
And burning with desire
to experience earthly pleasures
Could no longer hold herself away from it.

This is the divine experiment that created the Fourth Kingdom in nature, the Human Kingdom. And this is your Bigger Story!

Once you identify as all that you are, a spiritual being having a human experience (and learning as we go how to do this), we drop all shame and blame and start to take responsibility for being God's grown up sons and daughters here on a very, very special mission: to bring Spirit into the human condition.

If you think you're not divine, ask yourself "Who is the Dream Maker who enters my dream life while sleeping and gives me revelations beyond my intellect's knowing? Who in me recognizes these dreams and revelations?" How can these divine moments be part of my reality if I'm not in a divine state? Where do my mystical or religious experiences come from? And who in me receives them? Nearly every human being has realized he or she has had experiences beyond the boundaries of being "just human." How could this be so if we are not already programmed to be this wider, higher Self?

Your psyche is your consciousness, your perceiver of reality and the spiritual Soul's mirrored reflection while living here on earth. Everything we think or feel comes first through our psyches. Without psyche we wouldn't be conscious of anything at all. Without psyche, according to Dr. Carl Jung, we'd be cut off from even knowing we are alive.

When we get out of alignment with our spiritual Soul, our psyches become the battleground where all distortions must play out until cleared. It's why the world is in the mess it's in. Many people, even whole cultures, have lost touch with what Spirit or God truly is, using distorted thinking to create the God of their making. It's why we create wars in the name of God. Or , more personally, why we sometimes need therapy, get depressed, embittered, or lose our sense of meaning and purpose in life.

All human misery is a result of the soul's inability
to express its purpose through us.

Since we're here to reflect Spirit, we are to bring Divine Love, Beauty and Truth to every situation. This is how we spiritualize the material world. Once we can see clearly, even for one brief moment, the fog lifts from our mirrors and we feel vibrantly alive and centered once more in Love. Sadly, though, because our mirror is fogged, and sometimes even cracked, from all of humankind's unprocessed ignorance and mistakes we take on and live amongst while here, we often must receive painful lessons. The soul is innocent of the ego's ways! "This isn't Love," we say when experiencing unlove. Or, "This is not the truth!" when we find ourselves in the midst of a lie. And who in you knows? Your soul, or psyche!

As the Fourth Kingdom in nature, our purpose is to always live from the fourth chakra, to cultivate an open heart, as our true identity is that of messengers from the Heart of God. So the Heart , or the fourth level of consciousness, is what we represent in the evolutionary chain. We are to open the fourth chakra and live from that place. This is crucial to our survival as a species, for when we are unloved or unloving, or live in disharmony, lacking in heart, we suffer a violation of our very nature. So we start to wither and die. Look around you: Isn't this what's happening in parts of our world today?

Our task, then, is to be conscious every moment of when we are loving and when we are not; of when we are truthful and when we are not. And to see beauty in every aspect of life, even its ugliest parts. And if we find ourselves in an unloving relationship or environment, we either bring Love there, or we consciously choose to leave. Sometimes things are not just up to us: others may be controlling an entire life situation we've entered. In these cases, we must use our spiritual discrimination (which Sam Keen humorously calls our "bullshit detector") and decide whether to stay or to leave. We were never intended to live in a toxic environment; our nature cannot thrive when there is no love, truth, or beauty to behold.

We are God's handiwork called "Unity in Diversity", the one archetype, Humanity, living as diverse individuals. When our mirror is clear, we know this, and are a perfect reflection of Spirit in these remarkable earth bodies we call human, truly a mixture of Spirit and matter.

So join us anytime you can and discover members of your soul family you've always known, waiting to greet you and support your next right step in coming whole! if you've read this far, your new life is already beginning.
