Small Talk #4 (July 2002)
A MESSAGE FROM JACQUELYN SMALL, Founding Director of Eupsychia Institute:

The time has now arrived for the archetypal and the human kingdoms to merge. Why? Because this is how we create a new reality, and it's our next step in evolution. Humanity is the Fourth Kingdom; the Archetypal Kingdom is the Fifth Kingdom, the Kingdom of Souls.

The archetypes are our essential blueprints, the organizing Principles that define us and all creation. Today, more than ever, we need to invoke the entities of this higher Kingdom, for when embodied, these aspects of our Soul become the Self, the archetypal Human. Only in this manner can we complete the Fourth Kingdom and fully blossom our species. If we would all turn inward and focus on this intricate, sacred and purposeful work, we could raise the consciousness here and end much of our man-made strife.

No longer can we be spared from the error of our egoistic, separatist ways. We are seeing Shadow all around us, currently consuming our world with war, terror, lies, greed, and materialistic myopia. It's giving many people a feeling of lonely, fearful hopelessness, not knowing which way to turn. We all belong to one connected group called Humanity, and our group life is suffering the tortures of the damned today, because so few people understand this evolutionary process and how we are each one required to heal our past and "come whole."

The Soul lives in a formless world. For it to enter into existence and be expressive here, it must take form. So our souls created a psyche as its double, or mirrored image, in order to see and feel themselves as human. Your psyche, which is your consciousness, contains all the archetypal organizing Principles, you use to build your potential human qualities and experiences. These patterns are built right into the very sinews of your psyche's "body" and manifest as either Persons or Processes that make you whole.

Whenever we create an archetypal mental image, it becomes an Ideal. These inceptive Ideals and Images are the gods, spirits, energies, muses, and other ageless entities and processes of a greater Reality, one that gives rise to the myths, religions, rituals, and folklore of the myriad cultures that have inhabited this Earth. When activated, any one of these will rise up out of the collective unconscious mind and seek expression through you, giving a modern-day performance. Some of these powerful Impressions we receive enhance our lives, while others present to us astronomical ordeals, illnesses, or obstacles we must overcome. For example, as mentioned above, the archetypal Shadow is rampant on our Earth right now, especially in the areas of religion and business.

This type of inner work, where we learn to manifest Spirit or the Ideal in concrete form, helps to co-create a new world and a new breed of people to inhabit it. Here, I'm reminded of a quote by Arnold Toynbee so relevant for today's chaotic state of affairs.

"At a time of crisis in any civilization certain individuals
turn from the outer world to the inner life of the psyche
and, discovering there a new way of life, return to the outer
world to form a creative minority which acts as a leaven
for the renewal of that civilization."

To activate an archetypal Pattern or Quality you wish to uphold, you invoke it. This means you become absolutely fascinated by its attributes, which will literally draw you into its gravitational "pull," (the Law of Attraction in operation), and thereby call it down as you dynamically rise up to meet it. In other words, you resonate to this Pattern: Something in you matches (or yearns for) that "something" you are wishing to be. When this inner event happens in your consciousness, you will mold and be molded by that particular type or energy. Then, before we know it, we are experiencing the signs of its influence in our lives.

The human psyche's archetypes are the "physical scaffolding" upon which the Soul, our divine Self, comes into being. Through this process, the Ideal of anything can be made real in the ordinary world. Psyche and Soul are divine Partners for this very sacred work. Just as Psyche and Eros modeled for us, they perform the activity of merging and human and archetypal kingdoms, an advancement in consciousness along our evolutionary pathway Home. They are our guides for this stage in our evolution.

But here's the hitch: Psyche (your psyche) must become completely conscious and realize that she is divine -- the Divine Feminine Principle living inside every human being, both men and women alike -- before we will commit to do this sacred inner work.. For the longest time now the psyche has been trapped in the human condition, not at all suspecting that she's on a par with the goddesses and gods of My Olympus, an immortal being. When this awareness dawns for any one human being, a great cycle ends, known as the "cycle of necessity" wherein we undergo rounds and rounds of lessons that remind us we are divine and here to be responsible co-creators with our Father in Heaven.

To activate the Feminine Principle in my life, here's what I've been doing. (And I've found much Joy in doing it!)

MAKING YOUR LIFE A SACRED RITUAL

I'm practicing making my entire life a Sacred Ritual. By this, I mean that whatever I am doing at the moment, I see it and experience it as archetypal. Then I behave as though I am this archetype at that moment. For example, I'm driving my car. I become The Driver and my car is The Archetypal Car. We buzz along the road, being the most conscious perfect Driver I am capable of perceiving, which means I'm completely concentrating on Driving Perfectly in a Perfect Car. Then I am home working on this computer, writing you. Now, I am The Writer. And to the best of my ability, I do what in my mind the Ideal Writer would do, staying focused on this and nothing else..Next, I am eating an orange. And I become the Soul who longs for sensual experiences and every bite I take is ultimately, impeccably delicious. Then, I speak to my husband on the phone and I speak as the archetypal Partner, behaving as best I can in this archetypal role. It's like "play-acting." And I'm wanting to learn to "never go off-stage." Yet, it's the very opposite of how the ego does play-acting -- where we play like we're someone we are not. In this sacred ritualistic manner, we are play-acting someone we ARE and perhaps haven't had the courage yet to be.

Try this way of living for a day. And you'll notice a huge change coming over you. Everything you do will take on a sacred significance, even just simply reaching down and tying your shoe. With enough practice, this can become a spontaneous way of life. Then we will be bringing in a whole new way of being, marrying this human species with its archetypal Ideal. As Arnold Toynbee says in the quote above, we will be serving as leaven for the renewal of civilization -- helping it to rise to its highest expression. When you think about it, how else can the Fifth Kingdom come to be? As Abraham Maslow once said to his classroom of students: If not you, then who?
