The
Heart, or Fourth Chakra, is our Higher Self's feeling
nature. And it is here that the motion of life and the
stillness of death meet. When our hearts are open, we are
filled with life; when they are closed, we feel deadened
and our lives seem meaningless. The fourth chakra governs
the anatomical heart and circulates our blood, or life
force. Hence, the color associated with this chakra is
green, the color of life. The Heart rules the mysterious
thymus gland that governs the immune system; many
immunologists today believe the thymus functions best
when we are in touch with the energies of love. These
doctors have noted that people with immune deficiencies
often die when they feel isolated and unloved.
This chakra is the vehicle for communing with our soul. When we truly enter the Heart, we drop our codependent patterns, all our horizontal sacrificing. No longer able to deflect from our true nature, we turn toward the completion of our own lives. At some point we all must enter the fourth chakra and pass through the "Initiation of the Heart" to face both our pain and joy. Otherwise we can never evolve.
