So
what is myth exactly and why are we so fascinated with
these timeless universal stories? Myth is the unconscious
representation of crucial life situations every
human being undergoes. Their universal characters and
teachings show up from culture to culture, telling of the
true experience of mankind from its beginning. Myths are
our greater archetypal Story as human souls passing
through time. When we study a mythic story, we can see our own problems with new eyes; it helps to realize that our issues are timeless and universal and never "just personal." Our myths can reveal our deepest truths, which often remain the unconscious motivators of our feelings and behaviors. These promptings of our soul are autonomous, and emerge in the fullness of time since we are these characters in human bodies, though our intellects often do not realize this. Great poetry will disclose these same primordial images we find in myth, and therefore gratify our souls, who love to hear of the Divine World Drama in which we're all playing a significant part. Whenever you embark upon a mythical odyssey, you'll be following in the footsteps of those who have gone before us and left markers along the way to assist us on our journey of awakening. And remember, studying myth is useless unless you apply your own life story to its message. PSYCHE'S SEEDS.) |
