Whenever
you are planning to conduct a group meeting, you can set
the stage for healing by following the steps below.
Though this is written for a group, similar preparation
is just as appropriate for a single client or even a
friend who has called on you for help. (1) Have a table set up in the room for the others to place any special objects they've brought that are sacred to them. This table is also good for wisdom books or oracles for participants to use for reference and reflection. The books and other items you set out should represent universal wisdom and many paths; they must not be a programming of any one sect or restricted philosophy. Be sure to let participants know ahead of time that this provision is available, so they can take advantage of the comfort and inspiration it offers. (2) Before anyone arrives, meditate for a while, invoking the Spirit of Love, Wisdom, and any specific quality that fits the occasion. Then cleanse the area with sage, delicate incense, or an essential oil that represents the quality you wish to be present. Never use anything too strongly perfumed, and be aware of group members, so that you can modify your plan if anyone is allergic to certain scents. (3) When the group enters, gather into a circle, and have everyone "go within" for a few minutes. To create a sense of safety, explain that this is the sacred circle where all your inner work will take place, and that it will be "kept holy" for the time you are together. Also stress the importance of confidentiality, and have the group agree on maintaining it, both during the process and afterwards as well. (4) Unless brought in by group consent, keep outsiders away, so that no one feels threatened. (5) Extend the profoundly therapeutic atmosphere you have created by making sure that all activities in the room are restricted to the qualities of love, truth and acceptance. (6) Before the group process ends, gather into a circle again. Through guided imagery, take some time to open the circle once more to the outer world in preparation for participants to rejoin their regular lives, while taking with them their newly found wisdom.
